Girl Scouts cross the bridge at Grafton Court of Awards
There’s a ritual that every Girl Scout knows. It’s called Bridging.
It sat on the stage at Grafton High School Monday night — a literal white bridge, with a discreet rainbow painted across the bottom. Crossing the bridge is symbolic of a girl’s progress. Blue-vested Daisies become brown-clad Brownies. Brownies cross the bridge to become Juniors, with green vests or sashes. Juniors become Seniors, and those khaki-clad girls become Ambassadors.
And at their final Court of Awards, those Ambassadors cross the bridge into adulthood, with vests filled with badges and memories.
But before they crossed the bridge, Grafton Girl Scouts celebrated the girls for their service. Girl Scouts’ top honor, the Gold Award, was presented to six girls, who all completed service projects:
- Madison Berardi (Storywalk for Grafton Land Trust)
- Sophia Coldwell (Love Your Selfie project)
- Veda Dave (A Special Room for Special Students)
- Triniti Petruzelli-Houston (You Are Not Alone)
- Jade St. Onge (Fishing Line Receptacles)
- Spandana Vagwala (not present)
Grafton Girl Scouts continued selling cookies throughout the pandemic and with COVID-19 rates dropping, cookie sales are once again thriving. The total sold for 2022 is 13,537 boxes (350 donated to the Senior Center, Police and Fire departments), 2,161 more than last year.
The Girl Scouts also recognized the service of women in the community, including former School Committee member Jennifer Connelly, former Select Board member Doreen DeFazio, Select Board Chair Colleen Roy, and School Committee members Elizabeth Spinney, Laura Often, Amy Marr, and Mariagraciela Vargas-Baker.
