Elizabeth Spinney seeks School Committee spot, is first to turn in nomination papers

Elizabeth Anderson Spinney, of Grafton, has announced that she has turned in nomination papers for Grafton School Committee, which would place her on the ballot for the May 18 election. Elizabeth was elected to the School Committee on June 23, 2020 to fill a one-year term left by a departing member, and currently serves on the group’s Policy Committee.

“I am very proud of what the School Committee has accomplished during this challenging year,” Spinney said, “but I’m just getting started. I hope to be able to continue to work to help Grafton Public Schools provide the most exemplary education possible for all students. I strive to always do my due diligence and to consider all aspects of any decision before the Committee, including its impact on teachers and families. I will always serve as a careful steward of our tax dollars, while continuing to advocate to enhance programs and improve the condition of our older school buildings.”

In addition to serving on the School Committee, Ms. Spinney also served as the chair of Yes! Grafton, a committee dedicated to the passage in June of the $4.0 million override, $2.8 million of which was targeted to support the schools. She recently served as vice chair of the Grafton Town Administrator Screening Committee. She has been a Board Member of Apple Tree Arts for nearly eight years, chairs its annual fundraising gala, and received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2019. Ms. Spinney is also a member of the Grafton Farmers Market Committee and previously served for three years as a president of the North Grafton Parent Teacher Group, where she led the way to raise nearly $300,000 for North Grafton Elementary Schools. She also volunteers for her son’s Scout troop and remains an active volunteer for the PTG.

Spinney is an attorney running her own consulting practice, which provides legal support and advice for biopharmaceutical companies. She has three busy children–one in elementary school, one in middle school, and a freshman in high school. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/LizSpinneyforGPS.
