Collette retires from Grafton Police; K9 also leaves department

Officer Robert Collette retired from the Grafton Police Department Friday after 36.8 years of service, marking the first of three exits from the department this month.

Collette joined the department in 1984 and was a 15-year member of the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) Motorcycle Unit, which escorted him home after his retirement party.

Collette will continue to work with the police department in a reserve capacity.

Also retiring this month is Officer David Sullivan, who has spent 30 years in law enforcement, effective December 16.

Grafton Police’s only K9 officer, Zita, was retired last month and the program was decommission. The Select Board will vote Tuesday on the sale of Zita to her handler, Officer Joseph Coggans, for $1.

Coggans and Zita joined the police department in 2019 after serving with the Paxton Police Department.
