BVT raises $50K for campus snow plow truck
Recently approved by the Commonwealth’s Massachusetts School Building Authority for $751,188 of state reimbursement for its self-funded roof project, the Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional School District replicated its cost-containment approach by raising $50,000 for a campus snow plow truck.
While celebrating the MSBA announcement for funding under the state’s accelerated reimbursement, BVT policymakers simultaneously commenced a campaign which offsets local budgetary impact. With assistance from its alumni and multiple other contributions, the system’s grounds will benefit from the new snow removal equipment.
As an entity owned by 13 municipalities, BVT’s custodial staff (and not the local DPW) accept responsibility for all campus maintenance. When necessary, the District’s Auto Technology/Diesel Program and its students will add further savings via appropriate vehicle maintenance.
Julie Mitchell, School Committee member, and FY21 Budget Subcommittee Chair commented, “From securing mission-related grants to pursuing energy or other rebates, we are delighted that the District is particularly vigilant in adding resources which complement local assessments.”
