At last, the Grafton Public Library reopens — and it’s a lot bigger now!
With a temporary Certificate of Occupancy in place, the Grafton Public Library is now fully open in its new/old home after a two-year $16.5 million building project hampered by the discovery of multiple buried fuel tanks and work stoppages due to COVID-19.
There’s still a bit of work left to do — landscapers are clearing out the front lawn of the older portion to make sure the view from Grafton Common is as good as the view of the Common. The computer network isn’t working and the wi-fi is sporadic. Not all the shelves are filled and, heck, not all the shelves are even there.
The building project preserves the front section of the circa-1928 library with an entrance on the Grafton Common. The upper level (Common entrance) includes the historic main reading room, showcasing beautiful original Palladian windows and woodwork, as well as meeting rooms, collections and services for adults. The lower level (Upton Street entrance) houses youth services space and collections, including a children’s program room, a teen-tween program and gaming rooms, several tutoring rooms, and mechanical and electrical equipment rooms.
Hours are Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
