Become a wizard this winter as Hogwarts comes to the Grafton Public Library

Your acceptance letter from Hogwarts has finally arrived. Here’s the first of many plot twists: the owl dropped it off at the Grafton Public Library.

And your wizarding education will begin there.

The Grafton Public Library has a new winter reading program, open to muggles of all ages (yes adults, you too can become wizards). You don’t even need to have read any of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books but, really, hasn’t everyone absorbed the basics by osmosis anyway?

To Participate:

  1. Stop by the Grafton Public Library, and pick up your Hogwarts letter and a lanyard in your house colors (while supplies last).
  2. Participants have from December 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 to earn up to 10 badges by completing tasks and reading challenges. Tasks can be completed by attending Library programs and by reading and/or listening to books.
  3. Once a task or reading challenge has been completed, stop by the Library with your Hogwarts letter to receive your badge.

Complete information on individual challenges, programs and workshops will be available at graftonlibrary.org/wrp and on the Library Event Calendar: graftonlibrary.org/events. Information, dates and times are subject to chance. Workshop registration will begin two weeks prior to the event.

Earn points for your favorite house by donating pennies and dollars into their jar at the Grafton Public Library. Subtract points from other houses by adding nickels, dimes, and quarters to their jar.

The house with the most points on March 31, 2020 with win a special house cup badge.

Donations will be given to the Grafton Public Library Capital Campaign to defray capital expenses including but not limited to Library construction and renovation, building maintenance and upkeep, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

To count towards the reading challenge, books must be read during the Winter Term. The same book cannot be counted towards more than one reading challenge.

Reading challenges include:

  • Divination: Read a book set in the future
  • Care of Magical Creatures: Read a book about an animal or with an animal on the cover
  • Herbology: Read a book about plants or with plants on the cover
  • Flying lessons: Read a book about transportation or with transportation in it
  • Hogwarts Library: Read a book with “book” in the title or pictured on the cover
  • Potions: Cook a recipe found in a cookbook
  • Ollivanders: Read a book about trees or with a tree on the cover
