New Grafton Flea Market owner ‘nervous, but excited’

Dung Kim Do has until April 3 to get everything settled in time to open the Grafton Flea Market for its first season under new ownership.

The Worcester resident appeared before the Select Board Tuesday to apply for a common victualler license for the market’s small restaurant and will return next week to take care of the beer garden’s liquor license.

“I’m excited,” she told the board. “Nervous, but excited.”

The 13.5 acre flea market property on Upton Street was sold in January for $1.1 million and an additional $550,000 for the business itself.

Harry Peters started the Grafton Flea Market back in 1970, making it one of the oldest continuously running flea markets in Massachusetts. Some vendors have had designated spots for decades while others hand over $35 for a spot in its piney grove in lieu of having a yard sale.

Peters still plans to remain at the flea market this year — as a vendor.
