Grafton & Upton Railroad hearing Thursday is now remote
The Select Board will be holding Thursday’s public hearing on the Grafton & Upton Railroad remotely, realizing a potentially heavy turnout combined with COVID-19 precautions should not mix.
The hearing, now scheduled for 7 p.m. on Zoom, is part an Environmental Protection Agency request to hear from Grafton residents about the impact the Grafton & Upton Railroad has had on the community. The meeting is not intended to be a question-and-answer session; rather it is soliciting comments from the public which will be forwarded on to the EPA. The board will also accept written comment by Thursday.
The EPA is negotiating a settlement with the short-haul rail company for alleged violations of the Clean Air Act’s chemical accident prevention requirements, which include failure to file a risk management plan before opening its propane facility in 2018 and questions about fire controls.
