Fire Chief Gauthier is no longer retiring early

Fire Chief Micky Gauthier will be staying on board and Fire Inspector Stephen Charest is delaying his retirement, the Select Board confirmed Tuesday night.

Gauthier, a Grafton Fire veteran of 47.5 years, had put in for early retirement earlier this month, frustrated over the lack of communication over the department’s transition to a full-time chief. While his discussion with the Select Board was in executive session last week, he is now reviewing fire inspector applicants with the hope of getting a person on board to train with Charest.

Very little was said about the two men’s decisions.

Meanwhile, the Select Board voted to sign a contract with 4LEAF, Inc. for fire administration services.
