Letter: Former moderator Trahan endorses Concaugh
Fellow Grafton Voters, Please join me in voting for Dan Concaugh for Town Moderator on Tuesday, June 23rd .
Having known Dan for many years and confident in his abilities and willingness to volunteer, I chose him as my Deputy Moderator during my tenure as Grafton Town Moderator (2008-2011). During that time, we met on numerous occasions to review the warrant articles in advance of each Town Meeting. He was prepared to preside over the entire meeting if necessary. While that did not happen, on a few occasions he presided over Town Meeting on articles where I had recused myself. He also played an instrumental role in overseeing the overflow crowd in the gymnasium during Spring 2008 Town Meeting which saw over 900 in attendance.
Dan has served Grafton in many roles over the years, including currently serving as Moderator for the meetings of the South Grafton Water District. As an attorney and healthcare executive, he organizes and is comfortable running meetings, some of which include large attendance and the need to professionally diffuse tense discussions.
With a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and having previously served in a Town Manager role, he is familiar with the ins and outs of local government and Town Meeting. He also respects the purely democratic institution of Open Town Meeting and the role that we as voters play as legislators, including the passage of our annual budget.
Dan has publicly shared his commitment to joining the Massachusetts Moderators Association once he is elected. I look forward to working alongside him and over 200 current and former moderators to exchange ideas and information which can enhance the conduct of Town Meetings. I’m a member of this organization which welcomes former moderators, as well as deputy and assistant moderators. I also welcome the opportunity to serve as Dan’s Deputy Moderator once he is elected.
I’m also confident that Dan will thoroughly interview candidates for vacancies on the various committees which are appointed by the Moderator. This includes our 9-member Finance Committee.
You can trust that Dan Concaugh will serve Grafton well as Town Moderator. You’ll be in good hands.
Kind regards,
Roger Trahan, Jr.
