Thomas KOs Cusher appointment to Affordable Housing Trust

“I don’t want to put my name next to someone I don’t feel can represent the town in a positive manner.”

That was the comment of Select Board Chairperson Jennifer Thomas on the recommended appointment of Dan Cusher to a vacancy on the Affordable Housing Trust Tuesday night. Cusher, the only candidate, was ultimately not appointed, with Thomas and Doreen DeFazio voting against and Donna Stock abstaining.

Cusher is a member of the Finance Committee, chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, and secretary of the Friends of the Grafton Public Library. In his application letter, he noted that he doesn’t like to “complain and do nothing” and has done extensive research into affordable housing.

Select Board member Ed Prisby objected to Thomas “taking a shot at the guy” and repeatedly asked Thomas to explain her reasoning. Thomas refused discussion.

“I personally feel I cannot support this appointment,” she said. “I’m not going to churn up stuff.”

Cusher was visibly incredulous in his box on the Zoom-hosted meeting.

“Wow, No explanation,” he said. “Just my name dragged through the mud.”

Cusher has been a frequent Facebook commenter on the Select Board race, but authored a letter stating he did not see the point in endorsements.

“This can be put on the agenda at another time,” Thomas said.

“I guess after the election, for sure,” Prisby said.
