Community Harvest’s Plantapalooza will go on — but you need to pick your plants online
Plantapalooza, the annual plant sale that draws crowds to the Community Harvest Project each May, is adopting an online format this year.
Social distancing, after all, is necessary in the time of COVID-19. But social service, in the form of fresh produce for local food pantries and community kitchens, is needed now more than ever.
“Over the past month, COVID-19 has forced us to change how we operate in countless ways; our development team is now working remotely, our farm staff has learned to adjust to social distancing guidelines while still planting the fields and our volunteer groups have been canceled until June 13,” an email announced. “Plantapalooza, our annual plant sale, has also had to adapt to the times.”
The online Plantapalooza store will be open on May 7 for those who donate monthly to Community Harvest, and May 8 to people who are on the email list (follow the links to sign up).
Plant selection will be limited to vegetables only this year but will include several varieties of hot peppers, heirloom tomatoes, Victory Garden packages and other vegetables perfect for home gardens.
Orders will be available for pick up May 15 from 2-6 p.m. and May 16 from 8 a.m.—4 p.m. at the Community Barn, 37 Wheeler Road. Pick up will be limited to eight people per 15 minutes and pick up times must be selected before checking out online.
Delivery will be available to customers in Grafton for an additional $10.
All proceeds will support Community Harvest’s mission of providing fresh fruits and vegetables for hunger relief in Massachusetts.
