With a ‘Voice’ that wows, Ricky Duran aims for the top
This is it.
There are only four songs and three other performers standing between Ricky Duran and the winning spot on “The Voice.”
The Grafton native, 28, is vying for $100,000 and a recording contract in the competition after a run where he was consistently a top finisher, with his recordings of The Beatles’ “Let It Be,” John Mellencamp’s “Small Town,” and Albert King’s “Born Under a Bad Sign” hitting the iTunes charts.
For the finale, Duran and the remaining contestants will sing a cover song, an original song, a song with their coach (in his case, Blake Shelton) and a song with a celebrity guest.
In addition to Duran, who represents “Team Blake,” finalists include Katie Kadan, 38, of Chicago (“Team Legend”), Jake Hoot, 31, of Corpus Christi, Texas (“Team Kelly”), and Rose Short, 34, of Killeen, Texas (“Team Gwen”).
The winner receives $100,000 and a recording contract, although Shelton’s effusive praise each week has predicted a contract is in the cards for Duran, win or lose.
“The Voice” airs at 8 p.m. Monday night, with the final results airing Tuesday at 8 p.m. Voting (up to 10 times per voter) opens Monday night at the close of the show through the app or https://voicevote.votenow.nbc.com/
