‘The Shadow Box’ features Grafton actors as cancer patients
Apple Tree Arts, a non-profit community school for the arts, proudly presents “The Shadow Box” “by Michael Cristofer. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play will be performed in the Great Hall at Apple Tree Arts, 1 Grafton Common, Grafton, MA, on April 22, 23 at 7:00 pm and on April 24 at 2:00 pm. Audience members can purchase tickets in advance for $15 here or at the door for $20.
Directed by Grafton resident MaryBeth DeKara and stage managed by Kiersten Samalis, “The Shadow Box” brings the audience into the world of three cancer patients as they come to the end of their lives in hospice cottages on the grounds of a hospital. Each character comes to terms with their illness and life through interviews and moments with their families, who stay with them in these final days. *Please note: This play contains mature content that might not be suitable for children.
“After the past two years, I felt like it was important to bring this special play to the community,” said DeKara. “While the show is about cancer patients, it touches on so many meaningful themes that we all have grappled with – life, and death, but most importantly love, family and hope. I am extremely proud of this talented cast and what they each bring to this production.”
A true ensemble piece, The Shadow Box features Carolyn Mitchell as the interviewer, Patrick French as Joe, Cooper Often as Steve, Kate Gregoire as Maggie, Steve Kleinedler as Brian, Kyle Collins as Mark, Laura Often as Beverly, Christine Johnson as Felicity, and Debbie Crane as Agnes.
